Natural cleaners have been used for thousands of years before harsh chemicals showed up to the party. And many of those natural cleaners got the job done, so why do we tend to favor the chemical over the natural?

Most cleaning chemicals can really harm the environment by hurting wildlife, contaminating groundwater, contaminating soil, and corroding material. And while something like bleach may be the first cleaning product you see in the store, it's worth it to look around a bit more to find something that contains safer ingredients, because chemicals can be harmful.

The chemicals in cleaning products can be extremely harmful for the environment in a number of different ways. Most of them are dangerous for humans or animals to consume or even get on their skin. Now just imagine the effects of breathing that stuff in every time you decide to clean the house.

How does your chemical cleaning habit contaminate the environment?

Not only can chemicals harm you and your beloved pet, but they can hurt the environment in ways you might not have even thought about.

Chemicals can contaminate soil and groundwater over time, especially when used in high quantities.

When you're using chemicals to clean your toilets, sinks, tubs, showers, dishwashers, and washing machines, those chemicals are slowly over time being flushed to a wastewater treatment center where the chemicals are supposed to be filtered out before that water runs back into our lakes, rivers, and oceans. But this is simply not the case.

Filters are not perfect, and with everyone in the world using chemicals, there can become a buildup of harmful ingredients affecting our wildlife and our oceans. And something like bleach can be especially harmful to the environment.

So when looking for a cleaning product, find something that is plant-based and natural, but that will also do the job. An ingredient like white vinegar can do the trick just as well, if not better than something like bleach. Don't risk it. Buy a natural cleaner next time you're doing a deep clean on your bathroom. The world will thank you.
