food stains

Food stains from eating on the couch? Wine stains from spilling after being tipsy? Vomit stains from after you had too much wine? Don't worry, vinegar will do you proud in removing these common stains.

Vinegar is one of those versatile cleaning products that can really work wonders on all kinds of cleaning and maintenance tasks, especially stain removal.

Because of vinegar's acetic acid, it is just acidic enough to really break through even the worst stains without being too strong that it damages materials. A staining agent like wine, coffee, sweat, and even blood can be removed and dissolved away by simply using vinegar.

How to remove stains with vinegar

Getting stains in your clothing is one of those things that just happens. You put on your favorite shirt and a stain you've never seen before has suddenly popped up right on the front for the world to see.

But with a couple of hours and a handy bottle of white vinegar, those stains will say toodeloo before you embarrass yourself.

For shirts:

  • Make a half vinegar, half water solution
  • Soak the stain in the solution for 30 minutes
  • Scrub the stain with the solution
  • Wash & dry as usual.

For rugs:

  • Make a half vinegar, half water solution
  • Scrub the stain using a soft sponge
  • Let it sit for 30 minutes
  • Clean vinegar off using water

What vinegar should I use for cleaning?

The absolute best vinegar you could use for stain removal is a vinegar that is higher than 5% concentration. This may be difficult to find in the grocery store, but higher concentrations of white vinegar are available for purchase online on Amazon or Green Gobbler.
