Sputtering showerhead? Thanks to the natural minerals present in hard water, calcium and iron can build up inside of those little holes in your showerhead. If your shower isn’t flowing like it used to, don’t worry: in just a few simple steps, you can clear away what’s clogging it up -- and it doesn’t take a specialty cleaner or a specific tool. All you need is water, white vinegar, a sandwich bag and a rubber band (or a heavy-duty twist tie).
Follow these simple steps to make your shower head like new:
First, mix equal parts vinegar and water together in a small container. It should be about as much to fill your sandwich bag halfway.
Next, mix the water and vinegar and place the solution in a plastic bag. The solution is now 50% water and 50% vinegar.
Use a rubber band or twist ties to secure the bag around your shower head. Leave the bag and mixture around the shower head for about an hour.
Take the bag off the showerhead. Use a sponge to wipe away any stubborn or leftover deposits. Let the shower run for a couple minutes to check flow.
A free-flowing showerhead can make a big difference in your morning routine. Imagine waking up and walking into a shower that feels like a rainfall. It can happen -- and you don’t even need to buy a new showerhead.
